PRESS RELEASE

South King County Cultural Organizations Unite to Promote COVID-19 Vaccine Day on October 23

October 1st, 2021 -- Many south King County arts and culture organizations have united to promote a COVID-19 Vaccine Day on October 23rd. Get your COVID-19 vaccine between October 1st and October 23rd and receive discounts to upcoming activities with your local arts and culture institutions. As arts and culture organizations reopen, being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 is one of the strongest ways to show your support for one of the industries that has been hit hardest by the pandemic.

Beginning on October 25th, 2021, King County is requiring proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test to attend most indoor events including performing arts and live music venues, movie theaters, gyms, conferences, and conventions. To learn more about this policy, visit the King County COVID-19 website. Many arts and culture institutions already require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test for entry to activities.

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, unemployment among arts and culture workers was well over 50% according to the National Endowment for the Arts. The arts and culture sector contributes nearly $1 trillion to the nation's GDP and employs more than 5 million workers. In Washington State in 2019, the arts and culture sector represented 8% of the state's GDP and employed 3.5 million workers according to Americans for the Arts.

Together, we can keep our communities safe and return to the arts and culture organizations we know and love. Get vaccinated and get back to life!
