A MESSAGE FROM KING COUNTY

The Lower Green River is at risk of severe flooding. Floods are dangerous and destructive. They threaten our safety, block the movement of people and goods, harm the environment, and cause significant damage.

The King County Flood Control District (District) is developing a Flood Hazard Management Plan to guide future flood reduction investments in the Lower Green River Valley, and we want to hear from you!

The District is conducting a study called a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS). This study will analyze ways to provide flood protection and meet other important multiple benefits including equity, habitat and salmon recovery, community, agriculture, development, water quality, and recreation. The scoping comment period for the PEIS is now underway. A previous public scoping period occurred in 2018-2019. The District revised alternatives to address issues raised during that scoping period. The new alternatives are the subject of this new scoping period.

The District wants to know what you think of these alternatives and how flooding in the Lower Green River Valley would impact you and your community. Your input will shape flood protection planning in Auburn, Kent, Renton, Tukwila, and unincorporated King County.
