Tell Legislators: Support Affordable Housing Creation and Preservation

As a member of the Partnership for Affordable Housing, we are committed to policies tht increase housing creation, access and affordability.

Fortunately, legislators currently have the opportunity to take a crucial step toward increasing the creation of more affordable housing -- particularly for working families. SB 5287 would expand the state's Multifamily Tax Exemption (MFTE) program to help increase the creation and preservation of affordable housing units.

The MFTE program has a proven-track record of success. Since 2007, it's created an estimated 7,325 below market-rate units and 27,560 market-rate units across Washington state.

Furthermore, the bill would expand the program to a wider range of cities while allowing existing projects to extend their participation in the program so current affordable units don't expire out of the 12-year program. The extension of the MFTE program helps prevent Washington from losing more than 7,000 affordable units in the next decade.
