On Saturday, January 25th, the Neely Mansion Association hosted a presentation and period fashion showing by local historian Alice Miller.

The presentation -- titled "Beauty and Duty: Women's Uniforms at Work and at War" -- featured uniforms of working women and those serving in the U.S. Armed Forces during the late 19th century, the Suffrage era, WWI and WWII, and through subsequent decades.

Honoring the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage and the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII, the presentation focused on the evolution of women's careers and roles in society over the last century, including personal stories and reflections on the amazing women who shattered glass ceilings, forced social change and lived through periods of immense growth.

Neely Mansion was constructed in 1894 by the Neely family, early pioneers in the Green River Valley. The farm on which the home was located, spanned over 200 acres, and housed five diverse families over the next century. By 1980, it had fallen into disrepair and was eventually restored by the Neely Mansion Association, the nonprofit now overseeing operations at the house.

Neely Mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a designated King County Historic Landmark.
